DRAP

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) regulates the conduct of clinical trials of therapeutic goods in Pakistan under the Bio-Study Rules, 2017.

National Bioethics Committee for Research

The NBC, Pakistan plays an important, yet insufficiently appreciated, role to help foster ethical norms within healthcare research and the education and practice of medicine in the country. The Healthcare Ethics Committee (HCEC) of NBC-R, which I chair, focuses on the latter. Its many functions include organizing bioethics workshops for provincial bioethics committees and the development of comprehensive guidelines with a handbook to help introduce bioethics in the curricula of medical and dental colleges in Pakistan. The HCEC is presently working on formulating ethical guidelines to assist institutions in developing SOPs for difficult clinical decisions that must be taken in handling the current COVID-19 pandemic.
